Kalvin Phillips to reject move from Leeds United to Manchester United – report

Kalvin Phillips will reject any potential move to Manchester United because he doesn’t want to betray the Leeds fans, according to the Daily Mail.

Phillips has been linked with a £60m move to Old Trafford this summer [MEN] but it’s believed that the England international would be keen to sign a new deal at Elland Road.

Now despite Manchester United being confident of striking a deal with their rivals, journalist Chris Wheeler is reporting that Phillips has no intention of swapping Leeds white for Man United red this summer.

The 26-year-old is a lifelong Leeds fan and joined the club as a 14-year-old, so is well aware of the rivalry between the two clubs.

And despite several players making the switch before him, he ‘couldn’t bear to betray Leeds fans’ and would be opposed to joining the Red Devils during his playing career.

Talks over a new deal are due to be opened this summer, but the Whites could be open to a sale if they can’t come to an agreement on his wages.

King Kalvin indeed. What a man Phillips is, but this is absolutely nothing less than what the fans expected when the rumour first emerged.

The Whites are keen to bolster their squad during the summer and losing their influential midfielder would set them back a few steps irrespective of what they manage to do with incoming deals.

He is one of the better central midfielders in the division and the fact he’s a lifelong fan of the club makes it much easier to keep hold of him if we’re pushing in the right direction.

Phillips deserves to be given a fresh contract and be one of, if not the, highest paid player at the club so it shouldn’t be difficult for the two parties to agree a deal.

However if a deal can’t be reached and he does have to leave Elland Road, at least we can stay calm in the news that he won’t be going to that lot down the road.
