Kalvin Phillips ready for sensational Leeds United transfer after new updates

Leeds United are already planning for life in the Premier League, despite the Championship promotion race looking tighter than ever.

Daniel Farke’s side occupy top spot in the Championship table, although after losing against Portsmouth on Sunday (9 March), they are level on points with Sheffield United in second.

Nevertheless, their sights remain firmly set on a return to the Premier League this season and with a game against Millwall on Wednesday (12 March), Leeds will be eager to get back on track.

Leeds United eyeing up Kalvin Phillips return

The pressure is building at Elland Road as we reach the business end of the season where every result matters.

Leeds have been in spectacular form throughout the campaign, although with Sheffield United and Burnley hot on their tails, the Whites have to keep their standards high to perform throughout the rest of the campaign.

If the Whites are to go up to the Premier League, they will have to make sure they have the right players available for them to maintain their position in the top flight.

With that in mind, it seems as though a former Leeds man could be seen as the answer.

According to The Sun (11 March), scouts at Leeds have been tracking the progress of Kalvin Phillips who has spent the season on loan at Ipswich Town.

The midfielder is on loan from Manchester City, the club he joined from Leeds in 2022, but he is expected to leave the Etihad at the end of the season, with a “fairytale” return on the cards already.

Phillips return could be what Leeds need

Although Leeds have plenty of talent in their squad, there is no doubt that they will need to strengthen if they gain promotion to the Premier League.

Therefore, adding players like Phillips who not only are familiar with the club but also with life in the top flight, it could definitely be a strong addition.

The relationship between Leeds and the 29-year-old has remained strong since his departure and given his sale generated £45million for the West Yorkshire outfit, there’s unlikely to be anyone who feels the sale wasn’t worth it.

Admittedly, his time since leaving Leeds has not gone to plan and he has made just 16 Premier League appearances for Manchester City.

Even this term, Phillips has made just 16 appearances for Ipswich on loan so a move to somewhere he feels comfortable may well be highly attractive for the player in the summer window.

That being said, if Leeds are serious about survival it’s going to take more than just Phillips to upgrade the squad and while this is a fair start, there is still plenty of work to be done.
