Kalvin Phillips could find Leeds United exit ‘impossible to turn down’ as Manchester City lurk

Kalvin Phillips might have played his final game for Leeds United when they beat Brentford at the weekend, according to The Mirror.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on Thursday (26 May, page 62) that Leeds and Phillips, 26, “may find it impossible to turn down [Manchester] City if they follow up their interest with a substantial offer”.

It is understood that the England midfielder has consistently said he doesn’t want to leave Elland Road but a big offer from Premier League champions Man City could prove to be irresistible.

Not going anywhere

Before the season ended, we firmly held the belief that if we’re relegated, Phillips would go and if we stayed up, the England star would stay.

And now that we have avoided relegation, there’s surely little that anyone can do to persuade Phillips to join them.

Manchester City will no doubt be able to offer Phillips a lot of money, guaranteed silverware and regular European football.

However, will they be able to offer him regular first-team football?

If Man City sign Phillips, there’s a chance he’ll play second fiddle to Rodri at the Etihad after the Spaniard put in such an impressive season for the champions.

As a result, Phillips’ chances of getting in the England squad for the World Cup later this year could take a hit.

Phillips has missed a lot of football this season due to a serious hamstring injury and since returning to action, his performances have not been that great.

He’ll know that he’s better off staying at his boyhood club, regaining his fitness and form and making it into the England World Cup squad before potentially making a decision next summer.
