‘Just wow’, ‘Going for it’ – Many fans react as Leeds aim to sign player with ‘look of Saiz’
Man City winger Ian Poveda could be on his way to Elland Road shortly and a lot of Leeds United fans are absolutely elated with the news.
Leeds want three signings this summer and it looks like they might have nailed two of them now.
The first is reportedly young Italian keeper Elia Caprile. Following him could be Man City’s Poveda, a 19-year-old who has spent the majority of his time at the Premier League giants in their Under-23s.
That news was reported by Leeds Live journalist Beren Cross on Friday and it’s got a lot of Leeds fans very excited, after footage of him scoring a goal in the UEFA Youth League for City against Shakhtar Donetsk was shared.
Poveda was playing as a striker in that game (in November last year) and he knows his way to the goal, although he’s predominantly a winger.
He’s scored six goals in 37 games for the City Under-23s and has made a senior appearance for Pep Guardiola, playing 90 minutes in the EFL Cup against Burton Albion last year.
Cross went on to say that he would be hooking up with the Leeds first team and that the progress of Jack Harrison, another City player, had led to this deal getting sorted.
He’s an exciting player and definitely one not just for now but for the future, and he looks like an upgrade on Jack Clarke to us.
Leeds fans are understandably excited, with one saying, “Wow, if we get this lad, just wow!”
That’s the sort of reaction we love to hear. And there’s more…
There are still a few dissenting voices, fans who want to see established big-name players coming through the door this January.
Besides the fact that FFP issues make that almost impossible, we’d much prefer players like Poveda, who Bielsa obviously rates, were joining. And there are plenty of Leeds fans who feel the same way. Here’s a tweet that sums up what we’re thinking perfectly.
