Jurgen Klopp should send Leeds United parting January transfer gift as Liverpool news rocks Premier League today

Jurgen Klopp should send Leeds United a parting gift in the January transfer window after news coming out of Liverpool has rocked the Premier League.

The Reds confirmed on their website on Friday (26 January) that the German will step down as their manager at the end of the season after nine years in charge.

It comes as the Whites are looking to sign defensive duo Nat Phillips and Calvin Ramsay on loan this month from the Anfield club [Daily Mail].

The news that Klopp has decided to step down has come as a massive shock throughout the Premier League and right across the footballing world.

While he divides opinion amongst supporters following some of his comments and antics on the touchline, there is no doubt that he’s been an incredible manager for Liverpool.

But as he comes towards his last few days in England in a transfer window, having promised to never manage another Premier League club again, he could help out his compatriot Daniel Farke by sanctioning loan moves for Phillips and Ramsay.

The duo, who were recalled from loan spells at Celtic and Preston earlier this month, are nowhere near the first-team setup at Anfield and are likely to make a temporary switch once again over the coming days.

With Leeds’ defensive options decimated over the past few weeks after Djed Spence was sent back to Tottenham and Luke Ayling joined Middlesbrough on loan, reinforcements are certainly needed.

The 20-year-old Ramsay could come in and battle it out with Archie Gray for the right-back spot, while also providing Farke with the opportunity to hand the teenager a rest from time to time after he’s been an almost ever-present this season.

It’s no surprise that the Scotland international was recalled from Preston after he was restricted to just two appearances, largely down to him having knee surgery at the start of the campaign.

After the Reds spent £6.5million to sign the fullback from Aberdeen in 2022, they will still be hoping he has a bright future at Anfield to get the most out of their investment.

Phillips, meanwhile, has had a strange time on Merseyside, having first made the headlines when he was one of the club’s only fit central defenders in the 2020/21 season, where he made 17 Premier League appearances.

But the 26-year-old hasn’t really kicked on since then after his latest spell out on loan at Celtic saw him play just eight times, with only four of those outings coming in the starting lineup.

With Pascal Struijk’s injury meaning Ethan Ampadu has been forced to start at centre-back in recent weeks, he could come in and provide another option for Farke heading into the next few months of the campaign.

It’s surely time for the Whites boss to get on the phone with Klopp to persuade him to send one – if not two – parting gifts down to Elland Road this month.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are plotting a double raid on one Premier League club this month.
