Junior Firpo will jet into UK this weekend for Leeds United medical

Leeds United and Barcelona will agree a deal for Junior Firpo’s transfer to Elland Road today (Friday), according to Gerard Romero.

Writing on his personal Twitter account on Thursday, EsportsRAC1 broadcaster Romero reported that “agreement has to be closed” today.

He adds that Firpo “will travel this weekend to the United Kingdom to undergo a medical examination” and sign a four-year contract at Elland Road.

It is understood Leeds will pay £12.9million to sign Firpo.

Not long now

Leeds players are now back at preseason training and while Victor Orta targetted new additions before that, getting someone in this weekend is brilliant.

The Whites could have waited until later in the summer to maybe get a better deal but it’s definitely best to get players through the door now so they can get up to speed with Marcelo Bielsa’s system.

Bielsa held off playing the likes of Helder Costa and Raphinha at the start of their spells at Elland Road as they got used to the manager’s tactics and his physical demands.

While we have no doubt Firpo has been brilliantly coached at Barcelona – we don’t think it would have been anything as rigorous as what he’s about to get at Thorp Arch.

We’re excited about this signing.

Ezgjan Alioski has basically gone now unless he re-signs so a new left-back – from Barcelona, of all clubs – is very promising.
