Junior Firpo ‘transfer from Leeds United set’ as mega talks held

Junior Firpo looks set to leave Leeds United in the upcoming transfer window as significant talks have taken place away from Elland Road.

Daniel Farke’s team won the Championship title on the final day of the regular season, with a stoppage-time winner needed to pip Burnley in the league table.

Firpo’s contract at Elland Road expires soon, but it remains to be seen whether 49ers Enterprises will offer him a new deal.

While the Dominican Republic international has been a pivotal player for the West Yorkshire outfit, an exit may be closer than ever.

Barcelona want Firpo transfer as Spain move on cards from Leeds United

Barcelona are thinking about signing Firpo on a free transfer to bolster their squad, Graeme Bailey says.

The TBR Football journalist revealed that the left-back looks set to return to Spain in the upcoming transfer window.

Bailey expects the 28-year-old defender to play in La Liga next season, and his representatives have already held several discussions.

The journalist said (9 May): “It’s down to Firpo, I am told he’s inching towards Spain. Barcelona have even looked at him as a number two, Betis are there as well. It does sound like he’s heading back to Spain; his people have had a lot of talks.”

Farke will want Firpo to stay at Elland Road

During the title celebrations, Firpo asked Paraag Marathe to send him an offer on Jayden Bogle’s social media.

The defender seems keen on extending his stay at the West Yorkshire outfit, but only time will tell how the situation will play out.

If the left-back leaves Elland Road, the Whites will undoubtedly need to buy a quality replacement for him.

Sam Byram could also depart Leeds in the coming months, with his contract also expiring.

If the two full-backs were to leave the Peacocks next summer, 49ers Enterprises will arguably need to invest heavily in the position.

The Whites arguably already lack defensive depth in their squad, with additions at centre-back needed.

Farke will also want to strengthen other areas in the upcoming transfer window, giving the West Yorkshire outfit an incentive to keep someone like Firpo.

If Barcelona do make a push for the 28-year-old, it would be difficult for the Peacocks to compete with them.

The Dominican Republic international will leave with his head held high if an exit is the outcome.
