Junior Firpo transfer: Agents jet out as contract tabled away from Leeds United

Leeds United fans will be sweating over the future of Junior Firpo as his agents have flown out to hold talks ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

The former Barcelona defender’s stint at Elland Road will soon end if 49ers Enterprises can’t agree on a new contract with him.

Daniel Farke’s team have won Premier League promotion and will undoubtedly want to keep their best stars ahead of next season.

The left-back will have the final say on his future, and one club have already tabled a contract to sign the Dominican Republic international as a free agent.

The new outlet reports (17 May) that You First, who represent the 28-year-old defender, were in Rome to hold exploratory conversations with the Serie A outfit.

It’s been claimed that a contract has been tabled for the left-back, who will leave England in the upcoming transfer window.

The Dominican Republic international is open to playing in the Italian league, although a return to Barcelona hasn’t been ruled out.

Farke to suffer big blow at Elland Road with Firpo exit

Firpo has been pivotal to the success at Elland Road this season, and his departure will arguably hurt the West Yorkshire outfit.

The 28-year-old’s attacking threat from the left-hand side of the defence will be difficult for a new signing to replicate at the Whites.

Farke could also be without Sam Byram in the coming weeks, with the ex-Norwich City ace’s contract also expiring soon.

Praag Marathe will arguably have to spend a hefty sum at Leeds to replace someone like Firpo in the upcoming transfer window.

The 49ers undoubtedly need to back the German manager with quality signings next summer, but the left-back’s departure will give the owners another position to worry about.

It’s clearly evident that the Whites should sign a new Premier League-standard centre-back, midfielder and striker if they want to avoid immediate relegation to the Championship at Elland Road.

That gives the hierarchy an incentive to tie the Dominican Republic international down to a new contract before he leaves as a free agent.
