Junior Firpo proposal emerges after Leeds United exit news

Leeds United are desperate to keep Junior Firpo at Elland Road this summer, but they may now be resigned to losing him.

Firpo enjoyed an outstanding campaign as he helped Leeds win the Championship title, but the opportunity to play in the top flight may not be enough to keep him.

The left-back is out of contract at Elland Road this summer, and there is plenty of interest in him from some top European sides, while Leeds are also keen on keeping him.

Real Betis were considered front-runners at one point as they wanted to bring Firpo back to Spain, but another side has now made a key offer.

Lyon make concrete Firpo proposal

Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais are one of several sides interested in signing Firpo for free this summer, and it has now emerged that they have made an offer to the 28-year-old.

Lyon have qualified for the Europa League but are suffering from financial trouble, which will mean they target free transfers such as Firpo.

Fabrizio Romano has now reported that Lyon are in negotiations for Firpo after sending him a proposal, and they are very keen on securing his signature.

If he is not keen on a move to Lyon, then AC Milan have also registered their interest, amid news that Theo Hernandez could leave.

Leeds likely to lose Firpo

Firpo is a popular figure at Leeds, and his 10 assists in the Championship were vital as he provided a lot of attacking quality at full-back.

However, given the level of interest in him, it appears likely that Firpo will leave Leeds this summer, with the chance to play in Europe at Lyon potentially swaying his interest.

This will be a massive blow for Daniel Farke, who will need a quality replacement given Firpo’s importance in both attack and defence.

Leeds already have a lot of work to do this summer to battle against relegation in the Premier League, and their task will be a lot harder now.

Firpo has made 119 appearances for Leeds over the years, and it now appears that he has made his last ahead of his potential exit.
