Junior Firpo preference emerges at Leeds United amid La Liga transfer update

Junior Firpo is out of contract at Leeds United at the end of the campaign.

The Whites’ left-back has been superb this season, playing an important role at both ends of the pitch under Daniel Farke.

With that being said, the Dominican Republic international’s contract situation is becoming a cause for concern at Elland Road.

Just months remain on his deal in LS11 and now the defender appears to have made up his mind ahead of the summer transfer window.

Firpo looks set to leave Leeds United

The former Barcelona defender has been excellent this season, contributing three goals and nine assists in the Championship so far.

His impact could have a telling say between now and the end of the season as Leeds look destined to earn promotion to the Premier League.

Even if that is to be the case, TEAMtalk has reported (18 March) that Firpo looks “increasingly unlikely” to stay at Elland Road beyond this campaign.

After changing agency to You First, options are being worked on by the left-back’s representatives to find the best possible option for the player.

The Dominican has attracted “strong interest” from three LaLiga clubs who have already made proposals to sign him as a free agent, one of which being Real Betis.

The Leeds man is still keeping his options open as no advanced talks have begun but a return to Spain appears to be the most likely move as his contract ticks down in Yorkshire.

Leeds United to regret Firpo decision

Although Firpo was never the best in the Premier League, there is no doubt that he has come into his own since being relegated.

Having this new-found confidence ahead of a return to the top tier could see him show his class among the best sides in the world.

It doesn’t appear that he is going to give that a chance with a return to LaLiga set to be selected after joining a new agency.

This will leave Farke with Isaac Schmidt and Sam Byram as his two main left back option which is far from ideal after promotion.

The Whites will have to be active in the transfer window with a defender looking like a priority if Firpo is to make the move away.
