Junior Firpo now available as free agent as Leeds exit developments emerge
Leeds United have been braced for the departure of Junior Firpo for some time, but it is finally coming to fruition.
The left-back’s contract will expire at the end of the month, which has alerted a wealth of sides across Europe.
Firpo enjoyed a stellar Championship campaign and played an integral role in Leeds’ title triumph.
However, it appears his time at Elland Road is set to end after new updates.

Firpo approach revealed amid Leeds United exit
It had previously been revealed that Real Betis had tabled an offer to re-sign Firpo from the Yorkshire outfit.
The Dominican has caught the eye in the Championship, making 32 appearances in Leeds’ promotion campaign.
Firpo was a lethal threat going forward, with 14 goal involvements, while he also put in a seismic shift at the back.
Junior Firpo’s 2024/25 Championship statistics | Total |
Appearances | 32 |
Goals | 4 |
Assists | 10 |
Clean sheets | 10 |
Tackles per game | 2.1 |
Clearances | 2.9 |
Promotion may have given the Whites a faint hope of keeping the left-back, but that appears to have diminished.
That is because Firpo has received a formal proposal from his former employer, Real Betis, according to Fabrizio Romano (11 June).
The transfer guru states that negotiations are underway to anticipate offers from other clubs across Europe, as he is now available as a free agent.
Firpo’s departure will have a knock-on effect, as Daniel Farke’s side are interested in Alex Moreno.
Leeds must move fast to replace the departing Firpo
The Peacocks would have been planning for Firpo’s potential exit for some time and should not be short of targets.
Moreno has been identified as a possible replacement, but Leeds will face competition to land the Aston Villa outcast in the coming weeks.
That means the Yorkshire club must act swiftly or risk losing one of their prime summer targets.
Of course, Firpo’s fate has not been officially sealed, but all signs point towards an Elland Road exit.
Like Sunderland and Burnley, Leeds were always likely to lose one of their star players after such a successful season.
However, left-backs are replaceable, and there are plenty of players Leeds can bring in to boost their chances of survival next season.
