Junior Firpo could leave Leeds United as talks begin for new transfer
Real Betis have opened talks with Leeds United about the signing of Junior Firpo this summer, according to ABC.
Writing on their website (16 July), the Spanish news outlet report that Firpo can leave the club on loan to a team of his choice after the Whites failed to earn promotion back to the Premier League.
Betis are interested in the left-back and have already held talks with Elland Road chiefs during negotiations for Marc Roca and Diego Llorente, who both joined the La Liga club earlier in the transfer window.
Junior Firpo to leave Leeds United for Real Betis?
The belief earlier in the season was that Firpo would be allowed to leave Elland Road this summer [Phil Hay, 12 March] as the player is entering the final 12 months of his contract.
That hasn’t materialised as of yet and currently he is the only natural left-back in the squad for Daniel Farke, although Sam Byram is capable of filling in there too.
But with his contract expiring the Whites are in a difficult negotiating position if a permanent bid comes in, but not if their only interest is a loan deal.

There is no benefit to Leeds to accept a loan offer since his deal expires next summer, and unless he agrees a new contract first or there is an obligation to buy in the deal then it would be silly to accept.
Farke knows his options and the Dominican left-back is clearly on the agenda at Betis, so this is one to keep an eye on. But Leeds won’t do business unless it’s on their terms [YEP, 17 June].
