Journalist: Southampton in advanced £8.5m talks for Romaine Perraud, Leeds are interested

French side Brest are in advanced negotiations with Southampton over a deal for Leeds United target Romain Perraud, according to Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

The 23-year-old left-back has been a reported Whites target for some time, with French outlet Le10Sport making the claim in January.

However it appears that Marcelo Bielsa’s side will have to act fast if they want to secure his signature this summer.

Express journalist Taylor gave an update on Monday evening on the race for the Ligue 1 sensation who was named in the team of the season last month.

He wrote on his personal Twitter profile: “Southampton are close to agreeing a deal worth around £8.5m for Brest left-back Romain Perraud.

“Talks are now advanced. Leeds and Newcastle have also shown an interest in the 23-year-old.”

Time to react?

It’s not known whether Leeds will rival Southampton’s bid but from Taylor’s tweet it would seem that the south-coast side are hot favourites to sign Perraud this summer.

At the relatively modest price mooted, though, one would have to suggest that Leeds do not rate him as highly as was thought, if Perraud does sign for Southampton.

While we’re not going to spend extravagantly for the sake of it, it seems a small price to pay for someone who lit up Ligue 1 last season.

Furthermore, if there’s the choice to go to Leeds or Southampton, we’re pretty sure he would be jetting straight to West Yorkshire.

We finished six places higher and sixteen points further ahead of Ralph Hassenhuttl’s side last season and the levels were clear in both of our fixtures as we won by an aggregate of 5-0.

Perhaps Victor Orta has another gem up his sleeve that he thinks would trump a deal for Perraud.

If it happens then brilliant, but if not, in Orta we trust.
