Journalist shares whether Leeds United could sign ‘phenomenal’ Joe Rodon permanently in January

Alasdair Gold “wouldn’t be shocked” if Leeds United tried to sign Joe Rodon on a permanent deal in the January transfer window.

Speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast on Monday (4 December), the Football.London journalist questioned whether the Welsh international would want to go back to Tottenham once his loan spell with the Whites comes to an end next summer.

He added that the 26-year-old centre-back has been “phenomenal” for Daniel Farke’s side and he’s got “no doubt” that they want to keep hold of him, whether that’s by signing him in January or at the end of the season.

“I think for Joe Rodon, if I’m Joe Rodon I wouldn’t even want to go back to Spurs anyway,” said Gold. “He’s been smashing it at Leeds and I’ve no doubt they want to keep him.

“I wouldn’t be shocked in January if they tried to set up a deal to sign him permanently whether that’s at the end of the season or something, he’s just been phenomenal for them.”

Get it done

This is absolutely a deal that Leeds should be looking to get over the line once the January transfer window comes around if the option is on the table.

Rodon has been fantastic since he arrived at Elland Road, having nailed down a spot in the starting lineup ahead of club captain Liam Cooper.

He has forged an excellent partnership alongside fellow centre-back Pascal Struijk, while ensuring the Whites have one of the meanest defensive records in the Championship.

That form does, however, open up the possibility of other sides coming in to sign the Welshman if the West Yorkshire club don’t make their intentions clear.

There is a strong feeling that Rodon probably should be playing at a higher level than the second tier, so nailing him down permanently sooner rather than later would be a smart move.

In other Leeds United news, a journalist doesn’t believe it’s fair what’s been said about Joel Piroe.
