Journalist shares Southampton behind-the-scenes stance as third Leeds bid for Che Adams rejected
Leeds United have found themselves being dealt with rejection for the third time in their bid to sign Southampton striker Che Adams.
Sky Sports reported on Wednesday that the Yorkshire club have seen a third offer for Adams, 23, kicked into touch by the Saints, even though it included a permanent transfer for £20million in the summer upon promotion to the Premier League.
On the face of it, it seemed like a fair offer but Southampton have made it very clear to Leeds they are not interested in selling the former Birmingham striker – even though he is yet to score since his £15million move to St Mary’s in the summer.
Leeds’ determination to sign Adams has now reportedly led to a “growing sense of bemusement behind the scenes” at St Mary’s.
Southern Daily Echo journalist Dan Sheldon shared the latest stance of Southampton via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday after news broke of Leeds’ latest bid being rejected.
It is understood that the Championship side have been firmly told that they will not be able to sign Adams this month, yet they are still tabling offer after offer.
You cannot blame Leeds for trying but now, with just nine days until the January transfer window closes, it is about time that Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta move onto other targets.
We saw what happened last January with Dan James so there is no point risking a repeat of that this year with Adams.
There are plenty of strikers out there who have been linked with Elland Road.
Andre Gray seems the most appealing at this stage and there could be more chance of getting a deal done with Watford than there is with Southampton over Adams.
In other Leeds United news, Leeds are set to send this striker out on loan to a top-half La Liga club.
