Journalist says Leeds in bid to sign Rangers forward, Phil Hay tweets response

Leeds United are in the hunt to sign Rangers forward Ryan Kent, according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

Writing on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon, Nixon said that Leeds are “making a bid” to sign the 23-year-old ace, who is a long-term target of manager Marcelo Bielsa.

Kent joined Rangers in 2018 on a season-long loan before being signed permanently from Liverpool for £7million last summer.

During his time at Ibrox, the former Liverpool attacker has scored 16 goals and supplied 13 assists in 80 appearances across all competitions.

Leeds do have plenty of options in the winger positions but it is an area of the squad where Bielsa always seems to be happy to add more strength in depth.

Jack Harrison has already returned on loan after impressing on the left-wing for the last two seasons while Ezgjan Alioski and Stuart Dallas can also feature on the left-hand side of the attack.

Kent is primarily a left-sided winger too but is capable of playing on the right and even as a No 10 behind a striker.

Steven Gerrard has previously called the 23-year-old a “top player” and his pace and skill could definitely add an extra dimension to the Leeds attack.

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay – one of the most trusted sources of Leeds info – was asked to respond to Nixon’s story about Kent.

Hay wrote on his personal Twitter account that Kent is “someone who they’ve been keen on before” and that he was closely monitored by the Whites last summer.

Bielsa seems intent on signing Kent and as we all know, Bielsa is very rarely wrong.

If he’s insistent upon signing the former Liverpool forward then all us fans should be keen on that idea too.

It’s just up to Rangers and whether or not they would be receptive to losing one of their key attacking players.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have held talks to sign this hotshot striker.
