Journalist: Raphinha would cost at least £51m to prise from Leeds United
Leeds United would want at least £51million to even consider selling Raphinha, according to LeedsLive journalist Joe Donnohue.
That would smash Leeds’ record fee for a player exit, which currently remains the £29million [Sky Sports] that Manchester United paid for Rio Ferdinand in 2002.
“I think you’re looking at at least three times the figure they paid if he were to be sold,” Donnohue told GiveMeSport.
“It would depend on the timing that he’d be sold.
“I think you’re looking at, at the very minimum, three times that £17million figure.”
Even £51million sounds like a bargain for Raphinha.
The Brazilian has been performing at an extraordinary standard for the Whites this season and has easily been their standout performer, with his five Premier League goals during the 2021/22 campaign so far dwarfing the club’s next best in Rodrigo, who has two to his name.
The 24-year-old has taken his game to new heights after an impressive debut season following his move from Ligue 1 in 2020.
He is only one goal behind last season’s tally of six Premier League goals, and that has surely piqued the interest of Champions League clubs.
The three-cap Brazil star has shown that he can perform in England, but perhaps the only factors that would reduce his price somewhat are his inexperience in Europe’s premier club competition, the Champions League, as well as Leeds’ current struggles.
At the moment, the Whites are doing very little to prove to Raphinha that they will be challenging for the European spots in the coming season, and that’s sure to make him think twice about staying at Elland Road beyond the end of this season.
However, Raphinha will surely fetch a bigger fee than £51million.
