Journalist moots permanent Joe Rodon transfer amid ‘hugely important’ Leeds United displays

Graham Smyth has heaped praise on Joe Rodon and his importance to the team after his recent performances for Leeds United, particularly after the Middlesbrough clash.

Smyth reported that the defender’s willingness to throw himself in front of the ball and complete several key blocks have contributed to their success under Daniel Farke.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist also commented on the growing calls for Leeds to make his loan move permanent at the end of the season as a result of his performances.

Smyth was writing in his column for the Yorkshire Evening Post [4 December] as he shared: “The centre-back has made a number of hugely important blocks this season and was at it again during the second half against Middlesbrough.

“Rodon’s performances have been consistently solid since arriving on loan from Spurs and the clamour for him and Leeds to make that deal permanent is growing with every match. He was among the better performers against Boro.”

A permanent deal would be huge

If Leeds can secure Rodon on a permanent move when his loan deal comes to an end after this season, it would be a great deal for the club regardless of the amount of money dropped on his transfer with Spurs’ chairman Daniel Levy a notoriously hard negotiator.

Given the role the Welshman has played for Farke this season, his absence would certainly be felt by the team and the boss should he not return upon the expiry of his loan deal, which gives all the more reason to make sure he stays beyond the summer.

As Smyth said, Rodon has played a very important part in the success Leeds have had so far this season. He has been a rock at the back and stepped up with his quality and experience to help some of his younger teammates.

At just 26 years old himself, the Welsh defender still has plenty of time to learn and grow, and if he could do that as a permanent Leeds United player, it may prove the best situation for all parties.
