Journalist makes Leeds United prediction over Everton defender Ben Godfrey as transfer news emerges

Leeds United and Sheffield United will have a straight shootout over the signature of Everton defender Ben Godfrey.

That is according to The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, after Calciomercato reported on Sunday (21 January) that both clubs are chasing the player.

The publication added that Serie A giants AC Milan are also interested in signing the defender, who has made three Toffees appearances this season.

“So there are three options there,” Edwards said on the Transfer Gossip Daily podcast. “I would choose AC Milan all day every day. But I have a feeling this will come to a straight shootout between Sheffield United and Leeds United.

“It’s one of those debates which you can put yourself into as a football fan. These are three very different clubs, very different parameters, expectations and situations. I think it’s a brilliant three-way choice.”

Decision time

Leeds have been fairly solid at the back under Daniel Farke this season, with the Whites looking strong at both ends of the pitch.

But perhaps Whites fans would not say no to a new face in defence as they look to really push for promotion to the Premier League.

Godfrey represents a superb option, but whether or not he would choose Leeds over the likes of AC Milan and Sheffield United remains to be seen, if indeed Everton allow him to leave.

Staying in the Premier League and moving to the Blades is a great option for the centre-back, who would undoubtedly go straight into the starting XI.

The latter scenario would perhaps be true if he was to move to Elland Road, but Godfrey would of course be dropping down to the Championship.

And while AC Milan would be a superb option at this stage of his career, it may perhaps be pointless as he would surely be occupying a spot on their bench more often than not.
