Jonjo Shelvey to jet out for Nottingham Forest exit after Leeds United transfer pursuit
Nottingham Forest midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is set to fly out to join Turkish club Rizespor on loan for the season, despite having interest from Leeds United among other clubs this summer, according to the Telegraph.
The newspaper shared via their website on 13 September that Shelvey had offers to remain in England, with Leeds named alongside Burnley and Sheffield United as having registered an interest in him last month.
The Forest midfielder ultimately opted to aim for a fresh start in a new league, with the Turkish League appealing with its ambition having already brought a number of stars over to the division this summer.

Leeds won’t regret this one
As much as Shelvey has plenty of quality and would be a valuable asset for Daniel Farke’s side in the Championship, the club are unlikely to miss him after completing deals for Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev late in the transfer window to sure up their midfield depth.
Shelvey’s ability on the ball would have fit in nicely with Farke’s possession-focused style, while his talent for eye-catching passes would also have been an asset, but there are question marks over his work-rate and desire at this point in his career.
Farke has plenty of options to choose from in midfield despite missing out, with the aforementioned Gruev and Kamara now involved, while 17-year-old Archie Gray has made his name in the early stages of the season alongside another new arrival in Ethan Ampadu.

Regardless, it is too late to be looking back at “what ifs” now. Leeds will have to have their full focus on the rest of the Championship season if they wish to achieve their goal of reaching promotion to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
