Jonathan Rowe now major Leeds United transfer target after new developments

Norwich City winger Jonathan Rowe is seen as a “major target” for Leeds United as Georginio Rutter nears an Elland Road exit, according to Sky Sports.

The online source reported [15 August] that Leeds are facing obstacles from Marseille for the 21-year-old’s signature, with Daniel Farke needing more bodies in attack before the transfer window closes.

If a 3-3 draw against Portsmouth and 3-0 defeat to Middlesbrough in the EFL Cup were not already bad enough, Rutter is now expected to snub a new contract at Elland Road to join Brighton [Alex Crook].

Leeds United desperate to seal Jonathan Rowe signing?

With so much pressure already beginning to mount on Farke, the exits of Crysencio Summerville and Rutter will be of no help to Leeds’ chances of securing promotion this season.

The duo were instrumental in the Whites’ positive moments last term, combining for a total of 25 goals and 23 assists in the Championship, nearly firing the club back to the Premier League.

However, Leeds fell at the final hurdle after missing out on automatic promotion, losing 1-0 to Southampton in the play-off final at Wembley, meaning that several exits were expected this summer.

Even so, Farke’s side have failed to make any attacking additions so far, and with only 15 days of the transfer window remaining, time is running out to strike a deal.

The 21-year-old notched 12 goals and two assists in 32 Championship appearances last term despite missing several matches through injury and could be the perfect signing for the left-hand side of Farke’s attack.

Even with Wilfried Gnonto and Dan James occupying the flanks, Farke seems to be lacking depth on either side, which could be solved by securing a deal for the Canaries star. Leeds must act fast, though.
