Joel Piroe has clear stance on Celtic transfer as Leeds talks update shared

Joel Piroe’s future has been put under the spotlight at Leeds in recent days.

Leeds remain active in the January transfer window, with more arrivals expected at Elland Road following that of Facundo Buonanotte.

Jorgen Strand Larsen has been linked with Leeds this week, as Daniel Farke eyes the perfect strike partner for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who was recently named as the Premier League’s Player of the Month for December.

However, those links have cast a shadow of doubt over the future of Piroe, who remains in limbo ahead of the final two weeks of the window.

Celtic talks rubbished in new Joel Piroe update

It was reported on Friday that Celtic had held talks with Leeds over the signing of Piroe.

The provision was that the 26-year-old would move to Parkhead on loan for the remainder of the campaign, with Celtic willing to meet the wage expectations.

However, those reports have since been rubbished by Graham Smyth, who reported via X that there have been no club-to-club talks, with Piroe’s stance still the same as it was at the start of the window.

He wants to stay at Elland Road and fight for his place, despite already being the third choice under Frake this season.

Added to that, there is another major barrier in the way of the potential deal, though, on this occasion, it doesn’t directly involve Leeds.

49ers would be punishing themselves by sanctioning Piroe exit

There remains a chance that Piroe leaves Leeds in January, especially if Larsen or any other striker comes through the door.

However, a move to Celtic would be nonsensical on the 49ers‘ behalf, given the fact that they also own Scottish Premier League side Rangers.

By loaning Piroe to Parkhead, they would be damaging their own chances of winning the league title with Rangers, and that would certainly not go down well in Glasgow.

The 49ers have already faced plenty of scutrinty throughout their time with the Light Blues, and a major error like that would not be overlooked.

Piroe also has interest from several Championship teams, and if an exit were to come to fruition, that would be his most likely destination.

He won the Championship Golden Boot with Leeds last season and would be an excellent signing for any club with similar aspirations to those that the Whites had.
