Joel Piroe accepts Leeds United transfer with move now close from Swansea City

Swansea City striker Joel Piroe has accepted an offer from Leeds United, despite them offering a new contract, with an £11.1million deal agreed, according to Voetbal International.

The Dutch news publication shared via its website on 24 August that the man they have branded as the “goalscoring king” ignored the offer from his former club to extend his contract after scoring 46 league goals for the club.

It is also shared that PSV have a 10% sell-on fee, having sold Piroe to Swansea in the first place, and will now be set to receive a new transfer windfall after the deal was agreed.

An excellent addition to the squad

Piroe will be a game-changer at Leeds this season and is likely to be the difference between the team struggling to impress as they have in their opening three games, and mounting a serious challenge from promotion as is their aim for the season.

The Swansea striker scored 41 goals over the space of two seasons between 2021 and 2023, showing a clear talent for goalscoring at this level, and if he can replicate his form of the last two seasons at Elland Road, he will play a key part in taking Leeds back to the Premier League.

A previous report from the Yorkshire Evening Post [2 August] shared that any money received from sales would be reinvested into the squad, and while Piroe was previously out of reach to Leeds, it now appears that the money gained from Tyler Adams’ £23million sale to Bournemouth will be put towards signing the Dutchman.

Leeds’ desperation for a new striker will finally have been eased by the potential competition of this deal after Patrick Bamford’s pre-season injury exposed the weakness in the squad.

In other Leeds United news, the club are close to agreeing another new signing after Piroe.
