Joe Rothwell transfer: Leeds United ‘move on cards’ after PL promotion
Leeds United have a massive decision to make on Joe Rothwell in the summer transfer window if they win promotion to the Premier League.
The English midfielder signed for the Whites on loan from Bournemouth last summer and will return to his parent club at the end of the season.
Daniel Farke has relied heavily on Rothwell in the engine room this season as the German manager has had to deal with several fitness issues in his squad.
Ao Tanaka has also been a revelation at Elland Road, but it remains to be seen whether his partnership with the Bournemouth loanee will continue in the upcoming campaign.

Leeds United must sign Rothwell for Premier League
Rothwell could be an important player for Leeds in the Premier League if they win promotion, David Prutton says.
The Sky Sports pundit believes the 30-year-old has been superb for the Whites this season as they sit top of the Championship table.
Competition (2024/25) | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Championship | 35 | 0 | 4 |
FA Cup | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Carabao Cup | 1 | 0 | 0 |
Prutton feels the midfielder’s experience in the English top flight could bode well for the West Yorkshire outfit and has urged them to sign him.
Speaking to Football League World (26 March), the pundit said: “Rothwell has been superb this season for Leeds. The experience that he has shown, that smattering of Premier League experience, could bode well if they were to sign him permanently if they go up.
“The question being sometimes playing away from home, which I don’t really know why it’s become a thing because he’s a very seasoned professional. But he knows how to do it on the road and in front of his own fans, and I absolutely do think Leeds should be signing a player such as that.”

Farke will want Rothwell return at Elland Road
Farke is on course to take Leeds back into the Premier League if results go their way in the last eight games of the campaign.
The German head coach has recently seen Sheffield United close the gap on the Whites as the two teams sit level on points.
Burnley are not far behind the West Yorkshire outfit, making the final stretch of the season essential at Elland Road.
Farke must have been disappointed as Leeds dropped points against QPR in the 2-2 draw at Loftus Road on 15 March.
The Whites face Swansea on their return from the international break on 29 March, and they arguably need to put up a convincing performance at Elland Road for their fans.
Rothwell has been influential in the West Yorkshire outfit’s push for promotion this season and has done enough to deserve a return to the Peacocks next summer.
The 49ers Enterprises should make the Englishman their first signing, but they may be reluctant to spend too much on the 30-year-old due to his age.
