Joe Rothwell set to join Leeds United in new transfer development
Bournemouth star Joe Rothwell is set to join Leeds United on loan during the summer transfer window, according to Alex Crook.
The talkSPORT journalist reported via X on Thursday (11 July) that the Cherries midfielder will join up with Daniel Farke’s side on loan at Elland Road ahead of the start of the Championship season.
Rothwell will be the Whites’ third first-team addition of the summer window after Joe Rodon and Alex Cairns both completed permanent moves to Yorkshire having enjoyed stints with the Whites earlier in their careers.
Writing on X, Crook said: “AFCB midfielder Joe Rothwell is joining LUFC on loan.”
Are Leeds United close to any new signings in the summer transfer window?
It has come totally out of nowhere, but much to most Leeds United fans’ relief, the Whites finally seem to be closing in on a new major signing after a quiet couple of weeks in terms of incoming transfer business.
While it is still early in the window and nobody was expecting the Whites to make wholesale changes this summer, they were always going to need a few more additions following the departure of Archie Gray who provided defensive and midfield cover.
Rothwell will not only provide cover, but he will add some genuine quality to Leeds’ ranks. On top of that, the 29-year-old knows what it takes to get out of the Championship having helped Southampton win promotion last season.
The deal might not yet have been completed and there is still the medical to be done before the transfer can be finalised, but Leeds supporters will be hoping this transfer goes off without a hitch as it would be an excellent addition.
Hopefully, this will be the first of a couple of quick signings to really kick-start the Whites’ summer transfer window.
