Joe Rothwell permanent transfer on cards as Leeds United agree new deal
Leeds United will have an option to buy Bournemouth midfielder Joe Rothwell at the end of his loan deal, according to Adam Pope.
The journalist reported via X on 11 July that the midfielder is set to undergo a medical at the club after a loan deal was agreed.
The loan deal is set to be for the season and Rothwell will no doubt be included in the first-team fold straight away.
Why a deal for Joe Rothwell makes sense for Leeds United
Leeds have been one of the most active teams in the football leagues since the summer transfer window opened.
The likes of Archie Gray and Jamie Shackleton have exited whilst Joe Rodon has been welcomed back to the club on a permanent deal.
Although there have been more outgoings than incoming, thanks to the £40million influx from the sale of Gray, there are likely to be more additions sooner rather than later.
The former Blackburn Rovers man has been deemed as a surplus to requirements at Bournemouth and played a key role in Southampton’s promotion last term.
He registered a total of 33 appearances last term and managed to involve himself with a total of six goals.
The 29-year-old was deployed in both central midfield and defensive midfield across the season and could be used as a solid replacement for Gray.
Rothwell has plenty of Championship experience and will no doubt be a valuable asset to Daniel Farke this season.
He will also help add some experience to the side and could perhaps be of use as a mentor to some of the younger members of the squad and help charge Leeds’ promotion push.
