Joe Rothwell medical development as Leeds United agree transfer
Bournemouth ace Joe Rothwell is set to undergo a medical at Leeds United on Thursday night (11 July), according to BBC Radio Solent Sport.
The South Coast radio station confirmed the news via their X page on 11 July, with Rothwell set to become Leeds’ latest signing of the summer.
Rothwell is already in Leeds [Mark McAdam, 11 July] ready to complete a season-long loan deal from Bournemouth, having spent the second half of last season on loan at Southampton, winning promotion to the Premier League.
Joe Rothwell set to complete Leeds United medical
It now looks as if Rothwell’s Leeds loan is a formality, as Daniel Farke and his recruitment staff continue to reassemble the squad.
With Archie Gray and Marc Roca having departed, and Glen Kamara potentially close to a move to Stade Rennais in France, the central midfield positions are certainly an area where Leeds are light.
Rothwell brings tried and tested Championship experience, as well as 31 Premier League appearances to his name for Bournemouth, as the club look for players capable of succeeding in the mission of automatic promotion.
If Leeds are offered the option to buy Rothwell at the conclusion of his loan, this top-flight experience could ease the club’s transition back to the Premier League in 2025 should they achieve their aim.
The 29-year-old’s promotion pedigree with Saints last year – even if he did not often start for Russell Martin’s side – makes him a key addition and a mentoring figure to the club’s talented younger players.
For Rothwell himself, the opportunity to be closer to his hometown of Manchester and play regular football again for a huge fanbase in a promotion hunt will be of excellent appeal.
