Joe Rodon update emerges as Leeds United want transfer already

Joe Rodon is attracting interest from the three newly promoted teams and other unnamed Premier League clubs, as well as Leeds, according to Alisdair Gold.

Speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast (18 June), the Football London journalist has reported that Leicester’s recruitment team “really like” the Wales international even though they don’t currently have a manager.

But Southampton, Ipswich and other top-flight clubs want to sign Rodon, and Leeds would love to have him back at Elland Road but are expected to have just a “slim hope“, with Spurs expecting him to leave permanently.

“Joe Rodon, all three promoted clubs are interested in him: Ipswich, Leicester and Southampton,” he said.

“Leicester don’t have a manager at this moment in time, but it’s believed that their recruitment team really like him.

“From what I understand there’s other Premier League clubs as well. Leeds would love to have him back. I do wonder if it’s more difficult now having not got promotion and without the money they would have got from that too, and the fact that there are Premier League clubs looking at him.

“I think Spurs can quite safely assume that they’ll sell Joe Rodon for a decent bit of money because of the competition as well and that’s why they took up the option on his contract as well, so it didn’t run out this summer.”

Leeds United face huge Joe Rodon transfer blow

Daniel Farke made the signing of Rodon last summer to strengthen his defensive options, and he couldn’t have asked for a bigger impact to be made.

The 26-year-old made himself an undisputed pick on the team sheet for the manager in the heart of the defence, and his performances have been enough to make it clear he is ready to be a Premier League player.

The Whites have been keen to make his loan permanent but after failing to earn promotion that now looks difficult, and top teams are looking to ruin the club’s plans.

The three newly promoted Premier League sides are of a similar level to Leeds but have the extra cash in their favour, but it’s possible that the unnamed clubs could have even more of an advantage if they’re more established.

Rodon won’t be at Tottenham next season, but it seems unlikely he’ll be playing at Elland Road too and the club will need to find alternatives.
