Joe Rodon signs transfer documents in USA for Leeds United return from Tottenham

Joe Rodon has signed all the documents needed for his return to Leeds United, according to Alasdair Gold.

The Football London journalist reported via Twitter on 1 July that the Tottenham defender’s paperwork was now complete ahead of a transfer to Elland Road.

Welsh international Rodon remains at Spurs’ training camp in Santa Barbara in California, with him being in the US having delayed the documentation being sorted for the deal, which is set to come in conjunction with Archie Gray’s departure to Ange Postecoglou’s side [The Athletic, 1 July].

His permanent Whites move is now just waiting for an official announcement, which could come on Tuesday 2 July [Graham Smyth, 1 July].

Daniel Farke to get ace back at Leeds United as Archie Gray leaves

No transfer can be 100% certain until it is confirmed by the clubs involved but it looks like this one is as good as done now.

Daniel Farke will have had an eye on bringing Rodon back from Tottenham from the moment his loan deal ended, with the 26-year-old having established himself as a near-certain starter soon after arriving last term.

The German would certainly have preferred to do so without seeing Gray depart but financial pressures at Elland Road were always going to make departures a necessary evil this summer.

Rodon had other options to stay in the Premier League but wanted to rejoin the Whites, so once he returns to England he will at least give his manager one key man who won’t be at risk of leaving.

The likes of Crysencio Summerville were widely predicted to leave either way amid plenty of interest from the top flight, and the Gray sale will likely highlight the fact that deals are available at Elland Road.

So incoming deals will be crucial to ensure a challenge can be mounted again next term, and in Rodon a good one looks imminent.

In other Leeds United news, an Elland Road transfer exit has now fallen through late on despite a medical being fine.
