Joe Rodon paperwork update as Leeds United ready transfer at Elland Road
Leeds United are finalising the paperwork to sign Tottenham defender Joe Rodon, according to David Ornstein.
The Athletic journalist posted on X [1 July] to report that Rodon is set to pen a deal at Elland Road as part of the deal for Tottenham to sign Archie Gray.
The deal will effectively be worth £25million plus Rodon for Gray, who will leave his boyhood club to sign a six-year deal in North London.
The paperwork on the Rodon deal has been slightly delayed by the Welshman currently being in Las Vegas, before returning home for pre-season.
Leeds United secure Joe Rodon transfer
With Leeds United needing to meet PSR rulings by 30 June, negotiations for the Gray deal had to have begun before that date, which they did in this case.
This is also why the deals for Gray and Rodon are separate transactions, rather than a conventional swap.
In Rodon, the Whites are receiving a player who was hugely important on loan last season, racking up 50 appearances in all competitions and working seamlessly with Daniel Farke.
The club will be devastated to lose such a hot prospect – Gray has already played for England’s Under-21 side having turned 18 this year.
However, the funds and the player they are recouping in return certainly softens the blow and turns the deal into a positive for the club’s revitalised promotion push in 2024-25.
With the announcements expected imminently, hopefully, that will be the end of any important player sales between now and the end of August.
