Joe Rodon drops hint over Leeds United future amid Premier League admission
Joe Rodon has dropped a hint over his Leeds United future as the Whites continue to press for Premier League promotion this season.
The Tottenham Hotspur defender arrived at Elland Road last summer, joining on a loan deal that is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.
Leeds have expressed a desire to sign the Welsh centre-back on a permanent deal after becoming a mainstay in Daniel Farke’s squad but it could be a transfer that breaks the bank.
Speaking in an interview with Sgorio on Friday (1 March), alongside teammates Dan James, Connor Roberts and Ethan Ampadu, Rodon said: “Just playing of course is what everyone wants but I think all of us together, I think it would be a really nice kind of journey if we did get there [the Premier League].
“With the journeys we’ve all been on, now it’s all led us to this moment. I just think it would be great for the collective as well, all of us to be playing together in the Premier League.”
Will Leeds United sign Joe Rodon on a permanent deal?
Whether Leeds sign Rodon on a permanent deal or not remains to be seen. But should the Whites invest in the 26-year-old defender? Absolutely.
He has been an incredible addition to Farke’s squad this season, helping to create the most resolute defensive back lines in the Championship, with just 27 goals conceded in 34 matches.
Rodon has been alongside Ampadu, Pascal Struijk and Liam Cooper at different parts of the season and has soared on all occasions, quickly becoming a fan-favourite at Elland Road.
Fans are always very aware not to fall in love with loan signings, but it has been almost impossible in this scenario, which suggests that a permanent deal for Rodon is more of a need than a want.

Of course, any signing is bound to hinge on gaining promotion back to the Premier League, with Tottenham likely wanting to sell the player for a reasonable fee after purchasing him from Swansea City for £11million plus add-ons in 2020. [BBC Sport]
With the number of Wales internationals now at Elland Road, it makes perfect sense to make one more of them permanent, with Roberts also only at the club on loan until the end of the season.
