Joe Gelhardt wants to stay as Leeds United January transfer plans emerge
Joe Gelhart would like to make his loan move from Leeds United to Hill City permanent next summer.
The Tigers want to keep the 23-year-old beyond this season following his impressive displays, but the future remains to be seen.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see Gelhardt return to Elland Road in January, as the Whites struggle for a reliable number nine in the Premier League.
Daniel Farke has been let down by Dominic Calvert-Lewin this season, with Lukas Nmecha playing a backup role and Joel Piroe now the third-choice striker at the West Yorkshire outfit.

Leeds United don’t plan on Joe Gelhardt return in January
Gelhardt will be allowed to stay at Hull for the remainder of the season, according to Hill Live.
The news outlet reports on 16 November that while the Whites have the option to recall the centre-forward to Elland Road, they have no plans of doing so.
It’s been claimed that the Englishman could potentially revive his career at the West Yorkshire outfit if they drop back to the Championship at the end of the season.
Hull manager Sergej Jakirovic is a massive fan of Gelhardt, who has scored seven goals in 15 Championship appearances in the current campaign.
The young centre-forward struggled for opportunities under Farke at the Whites, and subsequently left for the Tigers in January 2025 before rejoining them in the summer.
The German manager may have made a big mistake by not having faith in Gelhardt, as his current number-nine options are not faring well in the Premier League.
Daniel Farke will have one demand to achieve Premier League survival
It doesn’t look like Leeds have any intention of sacking Farke right now, but they should look to back him in the winter transfer window if that’s the case.
Goalscoring has been a significant issue at Elland Road this season, with Farke’s number nine options not living up to expectations.
| Player | Matches played | Goals scored |
| Joe Rodon | 11 | 2 |
| Lukas Nmecha | 12 | 2 |
| Noah Okafor | 9 | 2 |
Reinforcements up front should be a priority for the Whites in January, with a reliable striker pivotal to their Premier League survival.
The West Yorkshire outfit are just one point above the relegation zone, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them in the bottom three positions after a challenging set of fixtures in the coming weeks.
