Joe Gelhardt to Wrexham transfer mooted in new Leeds United exit update
Graeme Bailey believes Wrexham could seek a deal for Leeds United wantaway striker Joe Gelhardt during the January window.
The League One giants have already been tipped to move for Patrick Bamford [Jonny Buchan], who has yet to start a Championship game this season, but they could be priced out of any deal.
MOT Leeds News understand that Gelhardt is keen on a move away from Elland Road next month, frustrated by his lack of game time, and Bailey thinks Wales could be his potential destination.
Speaking to The Wrexham Insider [21 December], he said: “Patrick Bamford is an interesting name, but from what I am told Leeds are not in a huge hurry to lose anyone this January, it is all about promotion for them.
“And whilst Wrexham have a big budget, I don’t see how they could afford Bamford who is still on a Premier League contract.
“I do expect Wrexham to do something and I am actually told they could raid Leeds for another player, as they like Joe Gelhardt, although they are not alone and it would not be easy to land him either.”
Joe Gelhardt to seal League One transfer away from Leeds United?
Considering the 22-year-old’s previous experiences away from Leeds have come in the Championship, it would likely take a lot of convincing for him to move to League One.
While Wrexham are at the very top end of the division, fighting for promotion to the Championship, there are many other suitors that would be able to offer him better football, even European football.
However, with MOT Leeds News understanding that the Whites would prefer a move outside of the Championship, it cannot be a loan deal that is completely ruled out, especially if the choice is Gelhardt’s.

He is likely to be totally devoid of confidence under Daniel Farke, with the striker slipping further and further down the manager’s pecking order, and a move lower down could work wonders for him.
It is certainly a situation for supporters to keep one eye on ahead of the January transfer window, but as things stand, League One is unlikely to be his final destination.
