Joe Gelhardt to have medical in London ahead of Leeds United exit
Joe Gelhardt is set to have a medical in London on Sunday ahead of his loan move to Hull City from Leeds United, according to James Hoggarth.
The BBC Radio Humberside journalist reported via X (12 January) that the Whites forward is undergoing medical checks ahead of a temporary switch to the MKM Stadium.
If the medical is passed, the 22-year-old is set to join the Tigers on a loan deal until the end of the season, MOT Leeds News understands.
Joe Gelhardt to join Hull City on loan from Leeds United
Although the 22-year-old initially looked like an exciting player after his breakthrough at Elland Road, this term the forward has made just two Championship appearances so it’s not a surprise to see a move away from West Yorkshire in the second half of the campaign.
There is no doubt that Daniel Farke needs to improve his attacking options during the transfer window ahead of the remainder of the campaign with Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph sharing the striker responsibility to varying levels of success, but with just eight minutes of football played, it is clear the German doesn’t see Gelhardt as an answer.
At just 22-years-old still, this could be a great move for the youngster who will surely be desperate to get some regular minutes under his belt and keep progressing in the hope that he can be a first-team player whether that be back at his parent club or elsewhere.
Hull are struggling this season as they currently sit in the relegation zone of the Championship, two points from safety. Therefore, Gelhardt could find himself having the desired impact at the MKM Stadium while Farke can focus on the players that can help his promotion project now.
In other Leeds United news, fan unrest has been predicted as a player’s return to Elland Road is mooted.
