Joe Gelhardt exit: Medical begins for Leeds United transfer

Joe Gelhardt has begun his medical to leave Leeds United for Hull City, according to Alex Crook.

The talkSPORT chief correspondent posted on X (13 January) that the striker had started proceedings to seal his exit from Elland Road, which will be a loan deal until the end of the season.

Gelhardt moves to Humberside in search of more game time, having been a desperately peripheral figure under Daniel Farke so far this season.

Crook said: “Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt is undergoing a medical at Hull City ahead of a loan move.”

Gelhardt will be excited by the prospect of leaving for Hull City, with several clubs from England and Scotland having been interested in borrowing his services.

His strongest attributes combined with Farke’s preferred team shape mean he was never realistically sustaining a place in the team, and he has only played eight minutes in the league this season.

That will almost certainly be trumped single-handedly by his imminent Hull debut, which could come away at Millwall this Saturday (18 January).

Farke has insisted it will be a quiet transfer window this month at Elland Road – whether that turns out to be a poker face should any enticing deals become available remains to be seen – but Gelhardt’s loan switch is a sensible move for all parties.

Patrick Bamford is another striker who has struggled to get on the pitch too often this campaign and has also been linked with numerous different destinations in January – though sanctioning two forward departures may be beyond Leeds to accommodate.

In other Leeds news, it could be an unlikely chase for Emmanuel Latte Lath after Middlesbrough receive a massive bid from abroad.
