Alex Neil has issued an update on Japhet Tangana's future amid links to Leeds United, Crystal Palace, Sunderland and Wolves.

The 26-year-old is an important player for Millwall and even won their Player of the Year award for the 2024/25 season.

The Englishman left Tottenham permanently for the Lions last summer and is linked with an exit just after a year.

Neil admits Millwall not actively looking to sell Tanganga

The Millwall boss has admitted that the club are not actively looking to sell Tanganga or any of their players.

However, if an offer arrives which exceeds their valuation of a player, they may have to make a decision on a case-by-case basis.

Leeds United have been keen on Tanganga, but there are other sides interested in securing his services as well.

The former Spurs defender has a £1.2million release clause, so the Lions will not be able to stand in his way should that be triggered.

Neil said: “I know there’s a lot of speculation, as there always is, whether it be with Japhet or whether it be with Mihailo or whether it be with anybody else.

“We are not actively looking to try and sell anyone. We want to try and retain the squad, and we want to try and grow and build and be good this season. Equally, if somebody comes in with offers that are way beyond what we would maybe have as an evaluation of a player, then certain decisions may well get made.

“What I will tell you is we have no ambitions or certainly no effort is going into trying to move any of our players. We want to keep them here. We like them. We think they’ve got real growth in terms of them individually, but also us as a team. And we want to try and make sure this year is a good year for us.”

Leeds United do not need to sign Tanganga

Leeds United do not need to sign Tanganga, as their recent acquisitions of Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw have significantly strengthened their defence.

Bijol, a towering centre-back from Udinese, and Bornauw, a robust defender from VfL Wolfsburg, provide quality and depth, with Bijol’s aerial dominance and Bornauw’s physicality.

These signings address Leeds’ defensive issues, giving them a better chance of avoiding relegation from the Premier League.

Tanganga, a Tottenham fringe player with limited starts, adds little value compared to this duo.

Instead, the Elland Road outfit must urgently sign a new striker.

A prolific forward is critical for their quest to survive relegation.

Leeds should target a proven goal-scorer before the deadline to enhance their attacking threat and secure their Premier League status.
