James Mooney: Leeds United not interested in Farid Boulaya

Leeds United head of media and communications James Mooney has appeared to rule out a move for Metz attacker Farid Boulaya.

French journalist Mohamed Toubache-TER has recently reported on Twitter that Leeds are keen on signing the 28-year-old, who’s valued at £3.8million.

MOT Leeds News covered the story and also relayed it via our Leeds Insider Facebook page, which attracted a comment from a Facebook account that appeared to be owned by Mooney.

The image on the account suggests it belongs to the Leeds media chief while the location of Hull also matches up with what it says on his Linkedin account.

Cross him off the list

Leeds do need to add to their midfield options this summer and the attack-minded Boulaya could have been a solid signing.

The four-times Algeria international isn’t valued very highly while he’s also versatile enough to play behind a striker, as a striker himself or on either wing.

Last season, the former Girona attacker scored six goals and supplied eight assists in 33 Ligue 1 appearances for Metz, with a couple of those goals coming versus Lyon and Marseille.

However, based on Mooney’s Facebook message, it does not seem as though Boulaya will be heading to Elland Road this summer so we can cross him off the list of players who’ve been linked with a move to West Yorkshire.

Leeds have had a busy start to the summer.

Junior Firpo is our new left-back and he looks like a great addition from Barcelona and a big improvement on the now-former Leeds player Ezgjan Alioski.

Jack Harrison’s permanent deal has been signed off and there have also been a couple of exciting signings at youth level.

There’s plenty of time to go but strengthening the midfield is a priority now.

In other Leeds United news, Paul Robinson is baffled by one thing that is going on behind the scenes at Elland Road.
