James Maddison sends two-word message to Joe Rodon after Leeds United transfer

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison has reacted quickly to Joe Rodon’s Instagram post confirming his loan move to Leeds United for the 2023/24 season.

The centre-back has joined the Whites on a temporary basis as Leeds look to strengthen their backline in the chase for promotion having lost captain Liam Cooper to injury for the next two months in the season opener against Cardiff City.

Maddison’s short but sweet message to the Welsh international was posted only minutes after Rodon’s own announcement and was quickly appreciated by both Leeds and Tottenham fans alike.

Maddison joined Spurs from Leicester City following their relegation to the Championship this summer so therefore will have only spent a matter of weeks training alongside Rodon while Tottenham prepare for their return to Premier League action.

The 25-year-old defender has struggled to make an impact since joining the ranks at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in 2020, only making 24 appearances for Spurs, but did feature 22 times on loan with Rennes in Ligue 1 last season.

Got the backing of the team

Although the pair only shared a dressing room for just over a month, it is very clear that Maddison has plenty of affection for Rodon and hopes that he can reinvigorate his career at Elland Road throughout the remainder of the upcoming campaign.

Daniel Fake has mentioned the importance of everyone in the Leeds United dressing room pulling in the same direction if they are to be successful this season and there are very few doubts that, that sentiment will be lost on the Welshman.

Leeds United

Leeds fans who are doubtful of the defender’s credentials will likely be won over by Rodon’s genuine happiness to have made the temporary switch, describing the transfer as “an amazing feeling to join this iconic football club.”

Hopefully, Rodon will be able to maintain his fitness and form throughout the entirety of the campaign and remind those who may have forgotten, just how good he can be especially in a good Championship side.

It will be interesting to see what part if any the defender plays in Saturday’s trip to St Andrew’s to face Birmingham City.
