Jack Harrison release clause emerges in Leeds United transfer news

Jack Harrison has a £20million release clause in his Leeds United contract, but Everton would not be able to trigger it if the Whites were promoted this season, according to TEAMtalk.

The online football news outlet reported on 7 February that, while Everton do not have an option to buy in Harrison’s loan deal, the release clause would give them the option to make his move permanent.

This news has emerged amid another £20million transfer, with Luis Sinisterra set to make the permanent move to Bournemouth for that fee after also initially leaving on loan in the summer.

Could Jack Harrison leave Leeds United permanently?

If reports are to be believed, Everton would be able to make their loan deal permanent despite having no option to buy in the deal, with the release clause opening up the ideal opportunity for a long-term deal for the Toffees.

However, the financial situation at Goodison Park is a perilous one, and whether Everton would actually be able to fork out £20million on one transfer deal is a completely different question, and given their lack of spending in January, looks highly unlikely.

Leeds’ involvement in that topic has also been made clear. Simon Leaf, one of the UK’s leading sports lawyers, suggested the club could remain open to the suggestion of a lawsuit against Everton as they feel hard done by as a result of their overspending.

If Harrison is to leave Elland Road for good, he will need to continue his strong performances in the Premier League and hope Leeds aren’t also promoted, although there may not be anybody at Elland Road that is keen on him sticking around anyway.
