Jack Clarke regret emerges for Leeds United as near-£20m Sunderland transfer development emerges
Leeds United have had some shockers in the transfer market in recent years but selling Jack Clarke to Tottenham was never really seen as one of them.
Clarke, now 22, left Elland Road in 2019 to join Spurs in a £10million deal [Evening Standard].
It was seen as good news among Leeds fans because despite bursting onto the scene in the Championship under Marcelo Bielsa’s leadership, his form dropped severely when he collapsed on the bench in a clash against Middlesbrough in January 2019.
Spurs ended up coughing up a lot of money for the young forward and then sent him back on loan to West Yorkshire for a season before that deal was cut short and he ended up at QPR instead.
Clarke played just four times for Spurs before leaving permanently for Sunderland last year and he hasn’t looked back since.
The former England Under-20 international has scored 21 goals and supplied 19 assists in 86 total appearances for the Wearside club and his nine-goal haul this season sees him in the hunt for the Championship’s golden boot.

It’s also led to speculation surrounding Clarke’s future at the Stadium of Light with Sun journalist Alan Nixon reporting via his Patreon account on Sunday (5 November) that Brentford are in the hunt to sign the ex-Leeds attacker.
Sunderland are reportedly struggling to get him signed onto a new deal in the North-East, leading to the Bees’ chances of striking a deal of their own improving.
It is understood that the Black Cats want near-£20million for Clarke – double what Leeds sold him for four years ago. Brentford will reportedly pay £15milliom but Clarke is still signed up at the Stadium of Light until 2026 so there’s no major rush to sell him.
Clarke’s Premier League potential is really coming to the fore at Sunderland and Leeds will no doubt be regretting selling him when they did for £10million when he could have stayed put, played a major role at Elland Road and then potentially made himself worth more than the £20million Sunderland want now.
