Isaac Schmidt flies in for Leeds United deal on Transfer Deadline Day after Ao Tanaka

Leeds United are flying Isaac Schmidt over to the UK on the morning of Transfer Deadline Day to complete a deal, Graham Smyth reports.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post journalist via X late on 29 August the Swiss full-back is set to arrive in the country on the final day to follow Ao Tanaka into the club.

The FC St. Gallen ace had a Europa Conference League play-off game before he could depart to finalise a Whites deal.

Smyth wrote: “Leeds United’s Ao Tanaka deal to be announced tomorrow but sounds done. Isaac Schmidt to fly over in the morning.

“And then we’ll see if they can deliver anything else to finish a difficult window on a real high note.”

Leeds United set to add final two Daniel Farke transfer requests

After Georginio Rutter became the last, for now, of the high-profile exits this summer and joined Brighton Daniel Farke wanted four signings made to give him the ammunition to challenge for promotion [The Athletic, 16 August].

Largie Ramazani was quickly secured from Almeria to replace Crysencio Summerville as the top priority [Fabrizio Romano, 26 August] and Manor Solomon’s loan from Tottenham survived a Dutch hijack attempt [Romano, 27 August] as the second attacking addition.

If Tanaka is now set to be announced as the midfielder the manager wanted after Glen Kamara was sold to Rennes then Schmidt would round of his wish list at full-back.

It had looked like Bournemouth defender Max Aarons might arrive at Elland Road at the second attempt [Yorkshire Evening Post, 26 August], after he came in for a medical last year before his deal was hijacked.

But late interest materialised in Schmidt, 24, who can play on both sides of the back four as well as further forward on the flanks and midfield.

It may be that versatility that has swung it in his favour for Farke, with a permanent deal worth €3million [£2.52m] plus add-ons expected [Patrick Berger, 29 August].

In other Leeds United news, a multimillion pound attacker wants to seal an 11th hour move to Elland Road and the Whites think there is a discount to be secured.
