Isaac Schmidt fee revealed after Leeds United defender agrees Werder Bremen transfer

Leeds United are set to continue their squad overhaul for Daniel Farke after signing James Justin from Leicester City.

The 27-year-old has been given the opportunity to play Premier League football again after being relegated with the Foxes last season.

Justin has been unveiled at Elland Road, with the Whites paying £10million, including add-ons for the right-back.

Farke wanted a replacement for Isaac Schmidt before letting him leave, and now that the English defender has arrived in LS11, the West Yorkshire outfit are set to cash in on the Switzerland international.

Leeds United want £3m for Isaac Schmidt transfer

Justin’s arrival has seen the door open for Schmidt’s departure from Leeds, according to Mike McGrath.

The Telegraph journalist revealed on X on 26 August that the pathway has been cleared for the 25-year-old’s move to Werder Bremen from Elland Road.

It’s been claimed that the Bundesliga outfit have been in discussions with the Whites to sign the Swiss defender for around £3m this summer.

Switzerland national team head coach Murat Yakin has previously described Schmidt as “skilful” after his debut against Northern Ireland in a friendly on 21 March 2025.

Yakin said after the 1-1 draw: “With the newly formed team and the young players, I certainly had a positive impression. Isaac made almost no mistakes at right-back. I really liked Isaac. He was skilful, he won all his duels, and he was good offensively.”

James Justin to give Jayden Bogle run for his money at Elland Road

Leeds were worried about missing out on Justin after he picked up an injury as Leicester lost 2-1 to Preston North End in the Championship recently.

It looks like the defender’s fitness issues weren’t as serious, and he can hopefully contribute to Farke’s success in LS11.

Jayden Bogle has been the German manager’s go-to right-back, but the former Leicester star will undoubtedly give him tough competition.

Schmidt has been a bit-part player at Leeds, playing just 71 minutes in the league last season, and Justin will certainly be relied on more often.

The Englishman has vast Premier League experience and will definitely give Bogle more reasons to worry about his place in the starting lineup.

With the ex-Luton Town star also capable of playing at left-back, Gabriel Gudmundsson might also have something to think about, with Sam Byram the only backup before.
