Immediate Leeds return for Rasmus Kristensen ‘impossible’ after Europa League snub

Leeds United loanee Rasmus Kristensen has been left out of Roma’s Europa League squad, but a return to Elland Road is impossible, according to James Marshment.

The teamTALK editor shared via his personal Twitter account that, while it is uncertain whether there is a January get-out clause in his deal, an immediate return to his parent club is not a possibility.

Leeds agreed to send Kristensen on loan for the season due to a relegation clause in his contract, and he is still eligible to feature for Roma in Serie A, but the Europa League snub is a sign of Jose Mourinho’s opinion of his new player.

Kristensen has made his bed, now he’ll have to lay in it

The defender was pushing for an exit almost immediately when Leeds were relegated, despite a string of consistently poor performances for the club at a crucial time of the season leading up to their relegation, but Mourinho is clearly not happy with the defender.

Leeds fans could have told you months ago that Kristensen isn’t a Europa League standard player, but there was some hope that he could have found new form under the legendary Roma boss. Unfortunately for him, that’s not the case.

The possibility of a return in January will surely be discussed, and he does play in an area where Leeds could do with strengthening despite the arrival of Sam Byram and Djed Spence in the transfer window, so he would face a battle to get back into Daniel Farke’s side.

Given that Leeds fans were understandably pleased when Kristensen made his way out of the exit door – particularly compared to some of the other stars who departed Elland Road – it is difficult to see a return being a favourable option for either party.

In other Leeds United news, Patrick Bamford may be the perfect man for a new Farke role.
