Illan Meslier reacts as Manchester United transfer finally confirmed

Illan Meslier could be on the way out at Leeds United this summer.

The Frenchman has been the first choice for the majority of his time at Elland Road since his move from Ligue 1 side Lorient in 2020, but fell out of favour last season.

Several high-profile mistakes saw Daniel Farke decide to bench Meslier in favour of Karl Darlow, with the former Newcastle United man starting the final seven games.

And Leeds are now searching for a new number one for their Premier League return, with goalkeepers including Nick Pope and Lucas Perri linked with a switch to West Yorkshire.

Meslier reacts to Mbeumo signing

Bryan Mbeumo’s £71million transfer from Brentford to Manchester United has finally been confirmed.

The move has been touted for much of the summer, but the Red Devils initially struggled to get close to the Bees’ asking price.

But on Monday (21 July), Mbeumo’s arrival was confirmed by Manchester United, and the forward took to Instagram to say goodbye to his former club, where he spent six years.

Meslier liked the post, the two having played together for France’s youth sides before Mbeumo decided to declare that his national team would be Cameroon.

The forward represents a big signing for Ruben Amorim’s side, after scoring 20 goals and providing eight assists in the Premier League last season.

Mbeumo is among the Premier League’s finest

Mbeumo had already made a name for himself in the years prior, as a brilliant forward always capable of coming up with a game-changing moment in the final third.

But last season saw him take a step to the next level, consistently providing a deadly finish to Brentford’s attacks.

The winger is expected to start on the right for United, with Amorim hoping to reinvent the attack that fell massively short last season.

Meslier could be next to move

Meslier’s departure has always looked likely this summer, with the Frenchman unlikely to want to stick around for a season sitting on the bench.

A serious offer has yet to arrive for the 25-year-old, however, but that could change in the coming weeks.

Interest is reportedly picking up for Meslier, and the goalkeeper could yet be on his way out before the season opener in August.
