Illan Meslier exit now on cards at Leeds United
Illan Meslier could leave Leeds United in the upcoming transfer window as he’s being eyed by Stade Rennais, according to Jeunesfooteux.
The news outlet reports [8 December] that the Ligue 1 outfit have the 24-year-old shot-stopper “under consideration” as Jorge Sampaoli looks to bring in a new goalkeeper in January.
PSV Eindhoven’s Walter Benitez is another name the French outfit has on their radar, and it remains to be seen who Rennes will bet on — with some wanting Meslier to leave the Whites.
The 24-year-old has been a constant figure in Daniel Farke’s plans, and despite his errors this season — like the one against Sunderland on 4 October — the goalkeeper has started every Championship game.
Illan Meslier needs to be better at Leeds United
While the Peacocks can’t afford to part ways with the French national in the middle of a season, considering his importance to the team, he needs to do better to convince the fans.
The Sunderland incident wasn’t a one-off, and the shot-stopper must cut out silly mistakes from his game to truly fulfil his potential.
Meslier has showcased his quality in other games but was a passenger on 7 December as the West Yorkshire club beat Derby 2-0 at Elland Road.
Meslier has started in every league game in the current campaign, but Karl Darlow is keeping the Frenchman on his toes after the 34-year-old’s performances for Wales during the November international break.

The Whites lost their berth at the top of the league table after the loss to Blackburn Rovers on 30 November, albeit Farke’s team are still in line for automatic promotion, sitting in second.
Elland Road was close to witnessing Premier League football again after the play-off final last season, but they lost to Southampton.
The Whites’ supporters expect the German head coach to take the West Yorkshire club back into the English top flight, and failure to do so could lead to a mass exodus.
In other Leeds news, Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has made an admission about Farke’s team.
