Ilia Gruev speeds away from Werder Bremen stadium as whereabouts emerge amid Leeds United advanced talks

The whereabouts of midfielder Ilia Gruev have emerged after he was spotted speeding away from Werder Bremen’s stadium amid interest from Leeds United.

German news outlet DeichStube posted a photo of the Bulgarian international on its website on 30 August, claiming the midfielder is on his way out of the Bundesliga club.

Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg tweeted on 30 August that a deal hasn’t been reached with the Whites yet, but that they are in advanced talks over a move for the 23-year-old.

Edging closer

It looks as though a deal to take Gruev from Bremen to Leeds is edging closer as negotiations are at an advanced stage ahead of completing a transfer before the deadline on Friday (1 September).

But with the Bulgarian still in Germany, the Whites will have to quickly reach an agreement with his side to be able to bring him to West Yorkshire in time to complete his medical and the necessary paperwork.

They will be a little bit cautious about getting their hopes up after a few other deals have already broken down in the latter stages this summer.

Plettenberg reported that the midfielder is keen on the deal taking place, with the German outfit looking for a fee in the region of £5.2million to sanction a sale.

The Bremen academy graduate has made 62 appearances for the club and will be hoping a switch to Elland Road will improve his chances of securing regular first-team football after playing just three minutes off the bench this season.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites appear to have lost out in their bid to sign a Premier League midfielder.
