Igor Paixao's latest antics give Leeds United one more reason to obsess over transfer

Igor Paixao's recent goal-scoring antics with Marseille could be important for Leeds United for more than one reason.

The winger fits what Daniel Farke is looking for, but the Whites understand that they face stiff competition to land his signature.

Farke is keen to sign a winger that can also play in central pockets, similar to Harry Wilson, after missing out on the addition of Julian Brandt.

Marseille are in a spot of financial bother and are looking at signing Krepin Diatta on a free transfer, potentially to replace Paixao.

The Brazilian could be key to helping the French side alleviate some of their off-field pressures, but Paraag Marathe and Co. will still have to dip deep into their pockets.

That said, Paixao's recent goal for Marseille may have only added a couple more million onto the 26-year-old's price tag.

It's no secret that the Ligue 1 side need to raise funds, with a reported £128million required by June of 2027 to comply with regulations.

It's said that talks between Leeds and Marseille could go more smoothly; however, an update from Foot Mercato explains that a "significant" valuation gap separates the two sides.

Especially after his latest stunner in Marseille's pre-season friendly win over Atletico Bilbao, that looked like it was scored by a Premier-League level player.

Aston Villa are also keen on signing the left-winger, as further valuation details come to light.

What has Marseille manager just said about Paixao?

It's said that Marseille do not rule out the possibility of selling Paixao despite several attacking departures already.

Leeds value the player between £25.6m and £30m, while the French side would ask for around £42.5m to consider his departure.

It doesn't appear that the Whites have thought about upping their potential offer yet, though they may need to after his stellar pre-season campaign.

Speaking about Paixao after the 3-1 win over Bilbao, manager Bruno Genesio was full of praise for his player.

The Marseille boss said, as picked up by Massilia Zone: "Paixao? He's an extraordinary boy. In addition to being a good player, he always has a smile and takes great pleasure in training."

Paixao could become Farke's next favourite at Elland Road, though the Whites will know that they cannot blow their remaining budget on one player.
