Ian Poveda is expected to make a loan move to Sheffield Wednesday from Leeds United before the transfer deadline, according to Alex Miller.

The Sheffield Star journalist tweeted on Thursday (1 February) that the deal for the Colombian international will be announced before the 11pm deadline barring any "late shenanigans".

He added that the 23-year-old's move is now expected to be a loan switch rather than the permanent deal that was previously reported as the winger looks to be heading out of Elland Road.

Game time

There has been some surprise that Leeds are allowing Poveda to leave so close to the deadline as Daniel Farke previously admitted that he didn't want to lose any first-team players.

He has largely been on the periphery of the squad this season, but the Whites boss knows the importance of depth in the final few months of the campaign.

Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham City had both submitted offers for the winger, with the South Yorkshire side now appearing to have won the race.

It doesn't look as though the winger will be replaced at Elland Road, though, as there is such little time left in the window to get any last-minute deals done.

The German manager will be delighted that he looks set to keep hold of all of his key players as he looks to forge a challenge for promotion this season.
