Ian Poveda contract talks emerge after Leeds United exit confirmed, new club interested
Sheffield Wednesday have held formal contract talks with Ian Poveda after his exit from Leeds United was confirmed, according to The Star.
The newspaper reported via its website [19 June] that the Owls have been interested in the winger for several weeks, and now the club hope to close the deal on a permanent move after an impressive loan stint at Hillsborough.
It is understood, however, that a new club has joined the race to sign Poveda this summer, with an unnamed Ligue 1 club joining Cardiff City, West Brom and Luton Town in vying for his signature. [Darren Whitcoop]
Where will Ian Poveda end up after Leeds United?
It has been quite a sad end to the 24-year-old’s time at Elland Road, having failed to settle down in Yorkshire after leaving Manchester City in 2020.
He was sent out on loan three times during his four years with Leeds, only managing to make 40 appearances for the Whites over that period.
And despite suffering an injury while on loan with Wednesday last season, he looks to have done enough to convince the club of his talents ahead of the summer transfer window.
There is no doubt that Poveda has the ability to be a decent player in the Championship, but that will not be the case at Elland Road.

His pace, directness, impact from the bench and shooting ability make him a great prospect this summer, though Leeds will not be able to recoup money on any transfer due to him becoming a free agent.
Some Leeds fans may even prefer that he moves to the unnamed French club, just in case he comes back to haunt the club next season as they aim for promotion from the Championship.
