'I wouldn't rule that one out' - Phil Hay tips Leeds to swoop for Brentford star

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has tipped Leeds United to make a move for Brentford star Said Benhrama if the Bees miss out on promotion.

Benrahma, 24, has been in electric form for Brentford this season, scoring 17 goals and supplying nine assists in 42 Championship appearances.

The Algeria international is without doubt one of the best players in the Championship and there’s a good chance he’ll be a Premier League player next season – with or without Brentford.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester have all been linked with Benrahma but Hay has talked up a potential Leeds swoop for the Griffin Park ace if Thomas Frank’s side fail in their promotion bid.

“Like loads of clubs, they naturally like Benrahma. If Brentford stay down then I wouldn’t rule that one out,” Hay wrote on The Athletic website.

Benrahma would be a sensational signing for Leeds United.

The former Nice attacker has been on fire this season and is clearly too good to be playing in the Championship so if Brentford don’t win promotion, you can expect to see him on the move this summer.

Benrahma has played mainly on the left-wing for Brentford this season but can also play on the right-hand side of the attack or as a striker.

Stats by WyScout suggest that the Algerian relies a lot more on his dribbling game as a wide player than he does his crosses.

He has averaged 9.92 dribbles per 90 minutes of Championship football this season, completing 47.6 per cent of them whereas Jack Harrison averages just six a game for Leeds.

As a result, Benrahma cuts inside a lot more often and that has seen him average more shots on goal than Leeds’ left-wing mainstay and have a higher xG.

Benrahma is not only one of the most exciting players in the Championship but also the whole of African football.

We bet that he becomes a star of international and Premier League football in the not too distant future.

In other Leeds United news, Hay’s shared what he’s heard about Bielsa’s contract.
